Drowning is the leading injury cause
of death for children 1-4 years old in California.
Most toddler-age children drown in
backyard pools at their own homes.
Drowning is a quiet event. Children
don't splash and yell.
Drowning happens fast! In a few
seconds, a child can be underwater and not able to breathe. Brain
damage can occur in less than five minutes.
Isolation fencing with self-closing
and self-latching gates that separate the pool from the home can help
buy the extra few seconds someone needs to notice a child is missing
and save him or her from drowning.
